Studio work across cameras, sound, light and gallery

factolio

A look at the kinds of rooms and set-ups we plan and fit out, from compact interview studios to multi-camera news floors and their control galleries.

Studios and set-ups we work on

These scenes show the type of work factolio carries out. Each reflects a part of a live studio: the floor, the gallery, the rig or the room itself.

Our approach

What goes into a studio we are happy to hand over

A studio is judged on air, not on installation day. We look at how a room, its equipment and its crew work together over a long run of programmes.

Planning before building

We start with the programme formats rather than the equipment catalogue. A morning news show, a long interview and a multi-camera live show ask different things of a room. We map camera positions, talent positions and cable routes first, then choose equipment to match. This avoids buying kit that the room cannot use well and keeps the plan clear for everyone involved.

Testing under load

Equipment that works in isolation can fail when the whole studio is running. We test full signal paths with the crew at their positions, switch to backup routes and listen to the room with real speech. Problems found in testing are cheap to fix. Problems found during a live broadcast are not, so we leave time for this stage.

Leaving the crew in charge

Our work finishes when your team can run the studio without us. We label cabling, hand over drawings, write short operating notes and walk the crew through repeatable setups. Callum often trains in-house operators on lighting and camera positions so a standard look can be recreated every day.

Who we serve

The teams and organisations our work is built for

factolio works with people who run live television in the UK. These are the kinds of teams and organisations we support, from broadcasters to in-house corporate studios.

  • Broadcasters

Need dependable gallery systems and consistent studio looks for regular news and magazine programmes, supported by integration, lighting and workflow review.

  • Studio managers

Look after rooms, kit and schedules, and benefit from clear drawings, labelled racks and documented procedures when engineers or crews change.

  • Independent production teams

Often hire or build a studio for a specific series and need camera plans, sound control and a rig that can be reset quickly.

  • News and current affairs units

Work to fixed transmission times, so they value tested fallback routes, clean dialogue and lighting that stays consistent across the day.

  • Interview and talk formats

Rely on clear speech and flattering, steady light, which acoustic treatment and careful lighting plots help provide on a modest footprint.

  • In-house corporate studios

Run live events and streamed shows with small crews, and need straightforward systems and training that make repeatable setups possible.
